Is Guild Wars the only one? I like MMORPG's now... but don't want the Montly fee's thing?

There're websites out there devoted to free MMORPG's.
Many of them are Korean or Chinese.

To support themselves, most either limit your playtime, go pay to play eventually, or sell special items (or in-game gold) to people for real life cash, such as Maple Story's Cash Shop. A handful sell real life merchandise like T-Shirts and other novelties, but you'll mainly see digital items.
Some do a combination of the above.

Some free MMORPG's that are also commercial MMORPG's are server emulations, which in and of themselves are not illegal, but ripping resources and modifying the original clients are. Also, most EULA's these days include a claus in them about not creating server emulators, Guild Wars and Ultima Online among them.

Always be aware of whether you're playing a free MMORPG, or an open-beta MMORPG that will go pay to play in the future!

It is as per a quote from Flagship's site:

Quote:
Hellgate: London is a highly randomized action RPG played primarily from the first-person perspective. Set in the near future, London is caught in the aftermath of a demonic invasion. Mankind has been driven into the sanctuary of the Underground in order to survive, desperately hoping to one day regain a foothold in the rapidly decaying world above.

But it is free.

You're trading away the MMO nature of, say, Everquest for keeping your monthly $15.

Read the backscroll before going for the quick response.

First post is asking for links to MMORPGs that don't have monthly fees. Hellgate: London is that. As one can ascertain from the website I posted, it does require an initial purchase. In addition, the initial post is looking for games that compare to Guild Wars. This assumes he/she was looking for a one-time-payment MMORPG-style game. Again, Hellgate: London fits.

kthx.

LOL. I never quick reply, it bores me.

I have a 5 page editorial on the damn game from Pc gamer, speaking with the game's creator, who created Diablo franchise. Thanks. It is not free. You will buy it in a box, and play it instead of feeding your kids. It will be a single-player game that is indeed randomized, which gives it replayability. It is NOT an MMORPG, because it is not a massively-multiplayer-online-game and has no persistent gaming environment housed on a server accessed by millions of players, so, in point of fact, your post is off topic at best, and pointless at worst. Read the glossary of MMO terms before shooting your foot with a grenade launcher.

Period. End of Sentence.

yet at the same time, the OP considers Guild Wars to be an MMO even though Guild Wars is equally by no means an MMO

so by OP's definition, Hellgate may very well be a MMO

if Guild Wars is, then Hellgate is
